November News….

I am nine days into NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) or 13,362 words in to be exact, of a story that is not sure where it is going or who its primary character is supposed to be. Of course, with NaNoWriMo, anything is possible. And while this should feel exciting, it is a bit exhausting. What is the next scene, plot point? Who was that crazy character you suddenly introduced ten pages ago as a way to fill the word count? What the hell do you do with him now? And why did you not construct a bloody outline? But such is the beauty of NaNoWriMo, of slogging through and getting something — anything — done.

In the midst of NaNo are a couple of great events I am happy to be a small part of (and will get me out of the house), which I thought I would share:

Book Launch, Thursday, November 20, Black Swan Tavern (154 Danforth Ave.), 8pm: For Hot-Sauced Words’ November show, poet and artist Susan Manchester is launching her collection of poetry, To Stop Time (The Battered Silicon Dispatch Box) and David Clink is launching his chapbook, If The World Were To Stop Spinning (Piquant Press). Back in 2003, I had the pleasure of editing Susan’s first collection, Pouring Small Fire, with Nightwood Editions. At this event, I’ll be joining Carolyn Clink, David Clink, Sandra Kasturi, and Carleton Wilson as a tribute reader for Susan’s new work, which is a collection of not only her stunning poems but her equally stunning paintings.

Meet The Presses, Saturday, November 22, Tranzac Club (292 Brunswick Ave.), 11:30am-5pm: Just two days later, Meet the Presses Indie Lit Market will get underway at the Tranzac Club (click on the link to take you to the Facebook event page). This market features tons of small and micro presses and the wonderful work they produce, all of which will be available for purchase. It’s always an enjoyable day. I’ll be at the Junction Books table with Carleton Wilson, selling Junction wares, including new Poetry Pamphlets from Adam Getty and A.F. Moritz.

Hope to see you!
